We are thrilled to announce that Ian McFadzen will be joining us this November as our new Chief Executive Officer.
Ian joins us following a successful 7-year tenure at the Plymouth Science Park, where he is currently in post as CEO. As a published marine scientist and as a Trustee of the OCT, Ian is familiar with our ground-breaking work protecting and restoring vital Ocean habitats, as well as our internationally recognised education and advocacy work. He will take the lead on executing our ambitious five-year strategy to become the people’s champion for the Ocean, while setting the agenda to deliver the next stage of our development and growth.
‘After a rigorous appointment process, we are delighted that Ian will be joining the OCT. He brings regional, national and international experience as a driving force in the UK’s Ocean City and vitally, a scientific background to the organisation. His experience will enable us to take the OCT to the next level thanks to his infectious passion for our cause and with the support of the amazing team already running the Trust and our flagship facility the National Marine Aquarium.’
Mark Lomas, Chair of the Board of Trustees, Ocean Conservation Trust
During his time at the Plymouth Science Park, it has transformed into a leading force in the innovation ecosystem of Plymouth and the Region, creating high value jobs in technology enterprises in a range of sectors. Ian’s work has included the creation of an Additive Manufacturing facility, a leading centre for pilot work on this technology in the South West. His experience in marine science, building innovation hubs, business leadership, and leading conservation initiatives means he brings a unique blend of scientific expertise and strategic leadership to our organisation.
‘It’s a real privilege and honour to join the Ocean Conservation Trust as CEO. Its mission is to protect the ocean by instilling optimism, inspiring people through habitat restoration and research, and through visits to the fantastic facilities at the National Marine Aquarium. The Trust is a leading institution that helps raise awareness of the importance of our ocean. Through the power of partnership and building on the amazing stewardship of Roger Maslin I will strive to continue to create an open and collaborative organisation, working to sustain the planet’s most valuable ecosystem. I’m excited about the next chapter for me personally, continuing to play a role in Plymouth, Britain’s Ocean City, as a world leader in marine research, ocean advocacy and conservation. Together we will make great things happen.’
Ian McFadzen
We look forward to welcoming Ian into our shoal and have no doubt that he will continue to build on the exceptional work of our much-loved Roger Maslin, who is set to retire this September.
‘I am delighted that Ian has been appointed and can build on the strategy and programmes that he helped develop as a Trustee. His passion for the causes of the Ocean Conservation Trust and strategic leadership experience will make him an invaluable leader for the organisation. I hope he enjoys the role as much as I have.’
